Media conference highlights from the men's quadruple sculls with gold medallists Phillipp WENDE, Karl SCHULZE and Tim GROHMANN (GER), silver medallists Damir MARTIN and Martin SINKOVIC (CRO) and bronze medallists Daniel NOONAN, Christopher MORGAN and James McRAE (AUS) at Eton Dorney on Friday.
Phillipp WENDE (GER) - gold
On responding to the disappointment of last year (when they caught a crab at the world championships in Bled, Slovenia):
"Yes, we did. It has never been a big deal. For the long hours after Bled, it was bad, but we have forgotten this very quickly."
On the threat from the Croatian crew:
"I think I knew from the start that this would be our day. When we talked about it, we knew the Croatian team would be very strong in the third 500 (metres), so from that stage we tried to be very strong and come back as a team."
On whether this was a new era for German domination in the men's quadruple sculls, as it was in the 1990s:
We are very proud to be the first German Olympic champions (in this event) since 1996, but we don't think too much about the future - about whether we can dominate the next five or 10 years. We are just proud to be Olympic champions, and that's all."
Karl SCHULZE (GER) - gold
On whether the crew will go to Rio in 2016:
"Yes, we all can come to Rio. But first we have to celebrate our gold medal. First we will relax and spend some time with our family, because our family has been short-changed in the last year when we were in training. We are not stopping, we will keep training."
Tim GROHMANN (GER) - gold
On how he felt when he was awarded the gold medal:
"Incredible. I cannot even describe the feeling. It is a dream that has come true."
Damir MARTIN (CRO) - silver
On whether they were surprised during the race today:
"We are very satisfied, because we didn't get the right set-up for this race, so we didn't get into a good rhythm - which is our best weapon for the second and third 500 (metres). So, we have to go to a higher stroke rate, but we didn't have much stroke power. We didn't get our best out of the race, so we are really satisfied with the result."
Martin SINKOVIC (CRO) - silver
On the reason they couldn't find their rhythm:
"We didn't have the right set-up for the race. The Germans were really better than us, and we were not there in the last 500 (metres), so congratulations to them. We didn't lose. They won."
Daniel NOONAN (AUS) - bronze
On how he felt about his bronze medal:
"It was a disappointing season in the world championship, with issues and injuries, but we are really happy with the race today and are happy with the bronze medal."
Christopher MORGAN (AUS) - bronze
On whether there would be any retirements from the Australian crew:
"We're all looking to move on with the next stage of our lives. Some of us have family commitments, some of us looking to get careers established and on track. I say never say never, because before Beijing I said I was never coming back again after that, but I think we are all just delighted to have pulled out a good result and we'll see that resonate over the next few weeks, months, years, and who knows?"
On his beard:
"It's been a little bit of a topic this year, coming through this campaign. I decided I liked the look of the beard, so on it went and I'd like to keep it for my upcoming wedding in six months. It's often come up as a topic among the crew, but I'm quite happy with it at the moment."
James McRAE (AUS) - bronze
On Christopher MORGAN's beard:
"We think it looks ridiculous."
